Suicide Prevention Training for Staff, Providers & Community

Together we can make Kalamazoo a suicide safer community.

ABOUT OUR TRAINING

ISK suicide prevention trainings are evidence-based trainings for participants age 18 and over. The following trainings are available to the public: safeTALK, ASIST, MHFA, Youth MHFA.

All ISK staff and DCO (direct care outpatient) provider staff are required to take one of the listed suicide prevention trainings annually, attending a different training each year. Trainings can be repeated after three years. All trainings are available for registration within the Brainier system for the 2025 calendar year. 

Training is approved via the training department and updated in Relias. Please send training reports (indicating suicide prevention) with certificate of course completion to training@iskzoo.org.

FOR CRISIS SITUATIONS:

  • If you’re experiencing suicidal thoughts and need support, know that you are not alone.
  • Contact ISK via phone at 269-373-6000.
  • Our Behavioral Health Urgent Care & Access Center is open 24/7 with emergency mental health support at 440 W. Kalamazoo Avenue.
  • You can also call 988, the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, at any time.
  • In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

  • Register for trainings via Brainier or as noted on instructions. Exception: Mental Health First Aid trainings are registered via this website: Go to the MHFA page or EVENTS page.

Reminders for In-Person Training

  • Trainings start promptly at the time listed. Please arrive prior to the listed start time to register, gather materials, and to find a spot.
  • If you arrive to a training after the first 15 minutes, you will not be able to complete the training that day and will have to reschedule to another training date.
  • If you leave a training early, you will not be able to complete the training that day and will have to reschedule to another training date.
  • If you are not able to attend a training, please let us know, as there may be individuals on a waitlist for that training.
